Enable remote work faster with new Windows Virtual Desktop capabilities

The world has changed dramatically in the past few months. Due to the global health crisis, many people are working remotely for the first time. Organizations of all sizes have had to quickly shift focus and support users who need to stay connected from new locations and devices. In many cases, that means quickly giving users remote access to their corporate desktops and important applications, so that they can be productive immediately and you’re not waiting to acquire new hardware or to redirect internal capacity.

Many of you have turned to Windows Virtual Desktop, built on Azure, to quickly provision and scale virtual desktops and applications faster than was previously possible. We’ve been humbled by the number of you who have used Windows Virtual Desktop to meet the needs of your increasingly distributed and remote workforce. Alex McLeod, ICT Service Delivery Manager of Whanganui District Health Board, a New Zealand-based healthcare organization, explains how Windows Virtual Desktop has helped his team:

In response to this growing demand and your ongoing feedback, we are announcing today the release of several new Windows Virtual Desktop capabilities, including improved management and deployment tools, security and compliance enhancements, an upgraded Microsoft Teams user experience, and expanded support for cross-platform operating systems.

Simple deployment and management with the Azure Portal

To make deployment even faster, Windows Virtual Desktop now has a new administration experience built directly into the Azure Portal. You can use this graphical interface to perform key tasks faster and more efficiently, like deploying and managing virtual desktops and apps, assigning users, and carrying out integrated monitoring and diagnostics.

Enhanced security and compliance

Security and compliance are top priorities at Microsoft, and we know it’s crucial for you to maintain strict security policies while providing users with a personalized experience. To support your efforts, Windows Virtual Desktop provides reverse connect technology and FSLogix profile containers. Reverse connect significantly reduces the attack surface area by letting you run a virtual machine (VM) without keeping any inbound ports open. Profile containers provide a simple, robust solution to quickly manage virtual profiles in non-persistent environments while staying protected through your organization’s security settings.

To further improve the user experience while maintaining security, we recommend connecting internet egress directly from Azure through an Azure Firewall and limiting the outbound connections. To simplify the deployment of an Azure Firewall in conjunction with Windows Virtual Desktop, we are releasing deployment guidance with a new WindowsVirtualDesktop service tag, which enables the required platform internet access from the Azure virtual machines you create for Windows Virtual Desktop.

There are several other security enhancements releasing today, including:
  • Ability to add groups of users to Windows Virtual Desktop using Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) groups.
  • Support for static or dynamic conditional access policies.
  • Support for mandating multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Windows Virtual Desktop integration with Azure role-based access control (RBAC) and analytics for greater administrative control over user permissions.
  • Ability to choose the geography you want to store your service metadata for the best possible regulatory compliance and performance.

Upgraded Microsoft Teams experience coming soon

Many of us have been increasingly relying on Microsoft Teams as the primary way to collaborate with colleagues. In the next month, we will be improving the remote meeting and collaboration experience when using Microsoft Teams from Windows Virtual Desktop deployments with a process called audio/video redirection (AV Redirect). This will significantly reduce latency in data-heavy Microsoft Teams conversations running on a VM. As users connect, their remote client devices will initiate a direct connection for the call using Real-Time Communication (RTC) protocols.

Support for cross-platform operating systems

The Windows Virtual Desktop client is already available across Windows, Android, Mac, iOS, and HTML5. In addition to these platforms, we’re releasing a new Windows Virtual Desktop software development kit (SDK) to our development partners to support the creation of Linux-based thin clients.

Best Ways to Clear Clipboard History in Windows 11

In this article, I will cover different methods to clear Clipboard history in Windows 11. The Windows 11 clipboard is a special place in the computer’s memory that stores everything you copy. When you copy content on your Windows 11 PC, it’s automatically copied to your clipboard for you to paste. Windows 11 Clipboard is a very useful feature but most Windows 11 PC users are unaware of Clipboard functionality. You can paste multiple items from your clipboard history. In addition, you can also pin the items you tend to use all the time and sync your clipboard history to the cloud. On Windows 11 PC, you can launch the clipboard using the Windows+V shortcut key. The Clipboard data shows the history of items that you have copied on a Windows 11 PC. http://www.nometoqueslashelveticas.com/2010/04/la-aspirina-se-anuncia-con-graffitis.html?m=0 https://www.iloveitallwithmonikawright.com/2010/12/get-ready.html You can pin an item if it’s important and used frequently, and you can even delet...

New research highlights massive opportunity to empower Firstline Workers with technology

As companies around the world digitally transform their business models, operations, and corporate cultures, many have rolled out cloud and mobile technologies that have also transformed the employee experience. For information workers, technology has created a more networked and open flow of information, made collaboration easier, and provided more flexibility in where, when, and how they work. http://manevialem.com/thread-198611.html https://www.ironvolk.com/Forum/showthread.php?tid=73849 But there’s another large and important segment of the workforce that has been underserved by technology to date. These are the more than two billion Firstline Workers worldwide, who work in roles that make them the first point of contact between a company and its customers or products. Firstline Workers comprise the majority of the global workforce and play a critical role in the global economy. https://nedds24.pl/showthread.php?tid=1765 https://forums.empressflyff.com/showthread.php?tid=74443 http...

Best password managers

We are terrible at passwords. We still suck at creating them (two of the most-used passwords remain “123456” and “password”), we share them way too freely, and we forget them all the time. Indeed, the very thing that can ensure our online security has become our biggest obstacle to it. This is what makes a good password manager essential. http://weebbun.com/showthread.php?tid=226750 https://nvexotics.com/showthread.php?tid=8304 https://nftllamas.com/showthread.php?tid=100 https://forum.3dservers.com.br/showthread.php?tid=126 https://livegigs.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=242 A password manager relieves the burden of thinking up and memorizing unique, complex logins—the hallmark of a secure password. It allows you to safely share those logins with others when necessary. And because these tools encrypt your login info in a virtual vault—either locally or in the cloud—and lock it with a single master password, they protect the passwords themselves. If you’re looking to up your securit...
